Surfing Santa will brave the wind and snow to ride the waves again.

Fort Erie resident John Fulton, 53, will dress as Santa Claus and windsurf along the Niagara River on Monday, Dec. 23. This year will be Fulton’s 29th time windsurfing from Fort Erie to Buffalo. Fulton will begin his journey at 10 a.m. when he arrives via Niagara Helicopters at Old Fort Erie. He will launch his sails at 11 a.m. at the Niagara Parkway Marina and journey across the Niagara River escorted by Niagara Parks police and the US border patrol.

if the wind doesn’t cooperate, Fulton said he will make the trip on a stand-up paddle board.

He said he does it to raise awareness about poverty and homelessness and he encourages people to donate to their local food banks.

Fulton said he hopes people will donate items including blankets, clothing, toys and non-perishable food to their local food bank.
