A group advocating for migrant workers’ rights will make itself heard Saturday in St. Catharines at Montebello Park.

Set to arrive at 9 a.m. prior to the Wine Festival Grande Parade, the Harvesting Freedom caravan will be showing support for the rights of local migrant workers.

Joined by students, activists and community members, they will be calling for fair treatment and legislative support for seasonal workers. They say the Seasonal Agricultural Workers program, which outlines the rights of migrant workers, has gone 50 years without improvements. The Harvesting Freedom campaign says it strives to celebrate the workers, and provide them with equal rights as well as permanent status.
