Cab company's phones didn't work for a week

Just in time for St. Patrick's Day weekend, Greater Fort Erie and Niagara Falls residents can be assured that the local taxi company will answer its phone.

For about a week, leading up to Mar. 11, getting a cab by phone was virtually impossible in both municipalities.

This is a result of a glitch in the phone system, during a change in ownership of the local cab service.

The company formerly known as 5-0 Taxi, has been acquired by Central Taxi and the issues faced during the transition have all been resolved, says Marc-Andre Way, vice-president and chief operating officer of Coventry Connections, the company that owns and operates Central Taxi.

"People will start to notice a big difference," said Way, pointing out that more dispatchers and vehicles have been added to the company's structure.

There are currently seven vehicles servicing the Greater Fort Erie area and Way says that number is expected to grow to 10.

"We're trying to recruit drivers and beef up the service," he said.

The phone number for Central Taxi in Fort Erie remains the same as in the past, which is (905) 994-8294 (TAXI).

In Niagara Falls, the phone number is (905) 358-3232.
